The Sound (1982-1998; 2017-present)

The Sound was a quartet based in Houston, Texas that featured several former and future greats during the 1980s and 1990s. The 1986 lineup included Rick Strickland fresh off his stint with the Singing Americans singing tenor and former Blackwood Brothers tenor Pat Hoffmaster singing lead. Former Florida Boys tenor Terry Davis and future Cathedrals baritone Scott Fowler replaced Strickland and Hoffmaster respectively in 1987. Future Perfect Heart bass singer Mike Presnell also joined The Sound in 1987.

By the early 1990s, the group included future Legacy Five member Frank Seamans singing tenor, Rob Mills singing lead, and future Kingdom Heirs member Jeff Chapman singing bass.

The Sound eventually dissolved. The name lay dormant until 2017 when Rob Mills reorganized the group with his sons Levi and Jacob. The family trio is based in Michigan.
