Doy Willis Ott (April 28, 1919 - November 6, 1986)

Biography

Doy Ott began as a Southern Gospel pianist for the Stamps Melody Boys. He was also with the Hartford Quartet, the Rangers Quartet, and the Homeland Harmony Quartet. In 1950 he became the pianist for the Statesmen, filling in for Hovie Lister who was in the army. When Lister returned the following year, Ott switched from piano to baritone, a position he held for 27 years, until 1978.

In addition to his singing and piano artistry, Doy was also a songwriter.
