The Hinsons (1967-1988)
History
Originally from California, the Hinson kids (Kenny, Yvonne, Larry and Ronny) began singing locally in 1967. By 1970 they would release their first album with Calvary Records?. Also based in California, this record label would service the group their entire career. Yvonne would leave the group in 1974 to focus on family and as a result would leave the Hinsons with their first vocal personnel change. Chris Hawkins, also from California, would join the group in 1974 and stay with the Hinsons for six years. Later known to the Gospel Music world as Chris Freeman?, she would win the Queen of Gospel Music two times during her time with the Hinsons.
By the late 1970s, the Hinsons were among the most popular artists in Gospel Music. Yvonne would return to the group by the end of the decade and Larry Hinson? would announce his departure and make way for nephew Eric Hinson? to join the group, as baritone, in 1981. By 1984, Eric would depart and Ronny's son Bo Hinson? would join the group. The final configuration of Kenny, Yvonne, Bo and Ronny would stay in place until the group disbanded in 1988.
