Seals Hilton (April 17, 1925 - June 7, 2011)

Biography

Seals "Low Note" Hilton was born in Polk County, Georgia and grew up in the Sand Mountain area of Alabama. He sang bass for the Boaz Quartet at age 17 and for the Sand Mountain Quartet at age 19. He left to join the Army in 1943.

In January, 1947, Seals joined the Harmoneers in Knoxville and stayed with them for sixteen years until the retirement of the quartet. During the 1960s he also sang with the Plainsmen, the Hi-Fi Quartet, the Ray Wyatt Quartet, the Crusaders Quartet, and the Rhythm Masters. In 1968-1970 he sang with the All American Quartet in Quincy, Illinois. He was known for his ability to sing low notes with apparent ease.

After retirement he sang with a barbershop quartet in Quincy, Illinois. In 2005 he appeared in the movie Iowa playing the part of a singer.
