Peg McKamey Bean

Peg McKamey Bean (March 31, 1943 - December 26, 2023)

Biography

Peg McKamey Bean was born in Campbell County, Tennessee. During her pre-teen years, she and her sisters Carol and Dora formed a female trio called The McKamey Sisters. Peg sang from the group's beginning in 1954 to their retirement in 2019.

Ruben Bean joined the group in 1957 to play guitar. He and Peg were married in 1959. In later years, their daughters Sheryl and Connie sang with the group and even later, Peg's son-in-law Roger Fortner and grandson Eli Fortner played guitar and sang with the group.

Peg is best remembered for her exciting stage presence that often led to her kicking off her shoes and shouting. She passed away in late 2023 after suffering a stroke.
