Myrrh Records

History

Myrrh Records, a subsidiary of Word Entertainment (also known as Word Records), was founded in 1972 by Billy Ray Hearn. The label is mostly known for it's development of Contemporary Christian music. Probably the biggest discovery for the label was in 1977 when they signed a teenage singer named Amy Grant.

Other popular artists signed to the label down through the years include Barry McGuire, 2nd Chapter of Acts, Randy Matthews, Petra, GLAD, B J Thomas, and many others.

Other familiar names among their artists include the Imperials and Russ Taff.

The label took a several year hiatus beginning in 2000, but was relaunched by Word Entertainment (Word Records) in 2005 as Myrrh Worship, focusing on Praise and Worship Music.
