Biography

Billy Porter was raised in Austin, Texas. He began his singing career at the age of 15. Porter sang tenor, lead and baritone with various groups over the years.

Porter became the baritone singer for the Stamps Quartet in 1959. As other members came and left, he moved to tenor and finally to lead. After the group name was purchased and reorganized by James Blackwood, Cecil Blackwood, and JD Sumner in 1962, Porter sang with the Stamps Office Quartet. He also performed with the Texan Quartet.
