Hershel Wooten (December 30, 1927-2003)

Biography

Hershel Wooten began his professional singing career with the All American Quartet out of Mt. Vernon, IL. in 1949. He left the American Quartet in August, 1950. Within a few months, he joined Bobby Strickland and the Crusaders Quartet and remained with them until they disbanded following Bobby Strickland's death in 1953. Hershel became the original bass singer of the Harvesters Quartet in Charlotte, NC and remained with them until he retired from professional singing in the late 1950s.

Awards

Wooten was a recipient of the Grand Ole Gospel Reunion's "Living Legend Award".
